Pinky & the Brain: A Lesson in Pale Pink

The first picture of the good-looking blonde in the pale pink suit is Melanie Laurent, French actress who appeared in Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards and in Beginners with Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. The picture appears in this month's Vogue and was stared at by me in the grocery line at Longo's for approximately ten minutes. That suit! It's well-tailored, it's sharp, it complements her colouring, it's androgynous and ethereal.

Pale pink can be a tricky colour to balance as it is frighteningly sweet. It calls to mind angels and clouds and six year old girls frolicking in meadows surrounded by flowers and maybe strumming a harp or something. I've always thought of it as a little girl colour, but Laurent, Kate Bosworth, and a host of fashion experts from LookBook show us how to make it work on women. My favourites are the pop of coral, white and gold accessories and the wooden heel in the last picture, and the frosted blue shoes, purse, and collar in one of the middle pictures.
